Local sources in Badakhshan say that on the evening of Wednesday, September 17, a fierce clash between two Taliban commanders in the Warduj district of the province left one dead and 15 wounded.

The clash took place between Baba Jan, the Taliban security commander in Zibak district, and Zaheer, the commander of a Taliban battalion in Ishkashim.

According to sources, both commanders have more than 200 armed fighters and light and heavy weapons were used in the clash.

As a result, three Ranger vehicles were set on fire and serious damage was caused to both sides. The clash began with a dispute over pasture between residents of the villages of “Ghanio” and “Akhshira” and escalated into a large-scale armed clash between the two commanders.

This incident occurred at a time when Badakhshan province has recently witnessed increased insecurity and intra-Taliban clashes.

Sources confirm that the Taliban have sent forces to the area from Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province, to contain the conflict.
