Insecurity under Taliban rule; 9 children disappear from Kandahar in just three days.
Despite repeated Taliban claims of security, the number of crimes in Afghanistan is on the rise; in the past three days alone, 9 children have gone missing or been kidnapped in Kandahar province.
Local sources confirmed on Wednesday, July 23, that along with the increase in the number of children missing, the number of murders in Kandahar is also increasing at an alarming rate.
According to reports, more than a dozen children and adolescents have been kidnapped by unknown individuals in recent weeks. In some cases, the kidnappers have demanded ransoms from the families for the children’s release.
Images and information related to several disappearances have also been published on social media, reflecting only part of the dire security situation in the province.
Reports indicate that the wave of kidnappings and crimes is not limited to Kandahar, and that the trend has spread to other provinces as well—a matter that has raised public concern nationwide.
