The Afghan Journalists Center has expressed concern over the Taliban’s recent decision in Bamyan to ban the publication of images of living creatures.
This decision follows the group’s extensive restrictions on media activity in the country.
The Taliban’s Directorate of Encouraging Good and Preventing Evil in Bamyan has ordered a ban on taking and publishing images of living creatures in the province.
With this decision, Bamyan has become the fifteenth province where the Taliban has imposed a similar ban. Previously, such restrictions were also imposed in Kunduz and Badakhshan provinces.
In response to this decision, the Afghan Journalists Center warned that continuing this trend could severely undermine freedom of expression, access to information, and media work.
Critics believe that instead of creating a healthy environment for cultural growth and social awareness, the Taliban are paving the way for wider censorship and weakening information institutions with such decisions;
A trend that can keep society away from vital realities and developments.
