Taliban and Russian officials meet in Kazan

Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s deputy prime minister for economic affairs, met with Khusnullin Marat, the country’s deputy prime minister for regional development, in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The Taliban’s deputy prime minister’s office announced that in this meeting, the two sides discussed expanding political, economic and trade relations.

Mr. Baradar called on Moscow to invest in Afghan infrastructure projects such as building affordable housing, schools, hospitals, roads, dams and power grids, and to complete the “Afghan Trans” project.

In contrast, the Russian deputy prime minister, welcoming the expansion of cooperation, said that his country removed the Taliban from the list of terrorist groups to pave the way for the development of official relations.

It should be noted that Russia recently removed the Taliban from its list of terrorist groups in order to officially develop its relations with this group.
