Women’s Freedom Lantern Movement: Being a mother in Afghanistan has taken on the meaning of pain and deprivation

Along with International Mother’s Day, the Women’s Freedom Lantern Movement of Afghanistan released a video message depicting the difficult situation of women and mothers in the country. The movement says that thousands of Afghan women under Taliban rule live their lives in imposed silence and without basic human rights.

In their message, members of this movement emphasized that in Afghanistan today, being a woman has become an unwritten crime and being a mother is nothing more than resilience in the face of suffering and pain. They added that in a situation where women are deprived of the right to education, employment, social participation, and even the right to be a mother, International Mother’s Day is no longer just a calendar occasion, but a symbol of resistance, suffering, and the desire for freedom.

These reactions are being published at a time when extensive restrictions have been imposed on women and girls in various areas after the Taliban returned to power. Numerous reports indicate that these restrictions have deprived many mothers and children of access to basic services, including health, education, and social protection.

The Women’s Freedom Lighthouse Movement has once again called on the international community to break the silence on the situation of Afghan women and take immediate and effective action to restore their fundamental rights.
