Yuri Kukov, deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council, called Afghanistan under Taliban rule “a source of instability and a threat” to neighbors.
In an interview with the Russianskaya newspaper, he said Moscow was particularly concerned about ISIS’s activities in Afghanistan and its attempts to infiltrate Central Asia and Russia.
Kukov warned that the threat of terrorism in neighboring countries, especially Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, had increased.
Earlier, the Russian defense minister had described Afghanistan as the main source of cross-border threats in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The Taliban have always denied the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan
