Following the growing wave of insecurity and increased criminal activity in areas under Taliban control, local sources in Takhar province reported the killing of a citizen of the province by unknown gunmen.
According to local sources, the incident occurred last night (Friday, July 26) in Taloqan city, the capital of Takhar province.
The victim’s name was Munir and he was a resident of Warsaj district. Unknown gunmen shot him dead in his brother’s house. The motive and perpetrators have not yet been determined.
Local Taliban officials have also not commented on the incident.
Analysts believe that the Taliban themselves are directly or indirectly involved in many of these killings, but by attributing the killings to “unknown individuals,” they are trying to present an irresponsible picture of the security situation and evade accountability.
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s interior minister has also referred to this issue and confirmed the killings of Taliban leaders.
