Local sources in Jawzjan say that a senior Taliban member named Maulvi Hussam has married an 18-year-old girl at an advanced age.
The man is the preacher of a mosque and head of a religious school in the village of Nokrabad and, according to the sources, he used his influence and power to perform the marriage without the consent of the girl’s family.
According to the sources, similar cases of forced marriages by Taliban members in various provinces have also been reported before, raising concerns about the increase in structural violence against women.
