Former soldier shot dead by Taliban in Jawzjan
Local sources in Jawzjan province confirmed that the Taliban have once again brutally shot a former soldier. The incident comes amid a pattern of similar cases of detention, torture and killing of former soldiers by the group.
The body of the soldier, identified as Rohin Qilch, was handed over to his family on Thursday, July 9, according to sources. He was arrested by the Taliban a week ago in the city of Sheberghan.
Rohin Qilch served as an army soldier during the republican era and had turned to shopkeeping to earn a living after the Taliban took over. However, his return to civilian life did not prevent the Taliban from taking revenge.
The Taliban have committed similar acts in Jawzjan in the past. In one instance, Akhtar Khan Maulanazada, another former security force member, was killed by the Taliban in the city of Sheberghan.
The increase in targeted killings has raised serious concerns about the human rights situation, the safety of former forces, and the lack of justice in Taliban-controlled areas.
