In the latest case of domestic violence under Taliban rule, a man in Kunar province shot and killed his wife and one of his sons and injured two other children.
Local sources confirmed on Monday, July 14, that the incident took place on Saturday evening in the “Ludlam” area of Noor Gul district. According to sources, the attacker also injured his daughter and son after attacking his family members. The two children have been taken to Nangarhar Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Reports indicate that domestic violence, psychological stress and severe economic problems are among the possible reasons for this tragedy.
Despite the sensitivity of the incident, local Taliban officials in Kunar have not yet reacted. This silence comes despite reports of a worrying increase in domestic violence, domestic murders and the collapse of families’ psychological security during more than three years of Taliban rule.
Critics say the lack of a transparent justice system, the local government’s indifference to the community’s mental health and increasing poverty have paved the way for such tragedies to recur, while the Taliban government prefers silence to action.
