Former Faryab Provincial Council Member Wounded in Armed Attack.

Local sources in Faryab province said that Mohibullah Mirzad, a former member of the provincial council, was wounded in an armed attack.

The sources said the incident took place on Tuesday, July 15, but further details about the nature of the attack or Mr. Mirzad’s health condition have not yet been released.

The Taliban have not yet responded to the attack.

This incident coincided with the arrest of Inayatullah Beg, a local influential figure in Qaisar district of Faryab province, by the Taliban.

About a month ago, unknown gunmen shot and killed Saleh Mohammad Saleh, the former secretary of the Faryab provincial council, in the presence of his family.

Some observers believe that the arrest and assassination of influential figures in Faryab is being carried out in a targeted and planned manner.

Previously, there were reports that the Taliban had designated specific individuals in some northern provinces to identify and eliminate tribal elders and former government employees.

In the past three years, the Taliban have been repeatedly accused of targeting soldiers, officials, and employees of the former government, and even one of the group’s officials had previously confirmed these actions.
