Princeton to host special discussion on the future of Afghan women.
Princeton University in the United States has announced that it will hold a special meeting in August on the situation in Afghanistan, especially the conditions of women under Taliban rule.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, July 15, by the university’s School of Public and International Affairs, the meeting will be held on August 5 with the participation of political and academic figures.
The program will feature Adela Raz, former Afghan ambassador to the United States, as the keynote speaker. The meeting is being held in collaboration with the Afghanistan Policy Lab and the Central Asia Institute.
According to the Princeton University website, the main goal of the meeting is to inform audiences from both political parties in the United States about educational programs related to Afghanistan and to examine human rights challenges, especially for Afghan women, at home and abroad.
Organizers have emphasized that Adela Raz will speak about US foreign policy towards Afghanistan and its effects on Afghan women.
Since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, Afghan women and girls have been deprived of many of their basic rights, including education, work, and social participation.
At the same time, much international assistance to women’s advocacy organizations has also been suspended.
