Murder, Adultery, Sodomy; Senior Taliban Official Arrested in Faryab.
In one of the most unprecedented cases of exposing moral and criminal corruption within the Taliban structure, local sources in Faryab province have reported that a senior official of the group has been arrested by Taliban forces on charges of murder, adultery, and sodomy.
According to local sources, the individual is named “Damla Abdullah Faizi” and was the commander of the Taliban’s First Border Battalion in Maimana city, the capital of Faryab province. He was arrested by Taliban forces on Monday, July 21.
Although the arrest has been confirmed, Taliban officials have not made any official comment on the matter at the time of writing. This silence comes despite repeated reports of widespread corruption, sexual abuse, and blatant human rights violations by individuals affiliated with the Taliban in recent months, without effective legal prosecution.
Political and legal observers point to this incident and emphasize that many criminal and immoral acts are committed not by external elements, but by Taliban members and commanders themselves. However, the judicial system dominated by this group lacks the transparency and impartiality necessary to handle such cases fairly.
Reports indicate that in numerous cases, Taliban members, even after being arrested on serious charges, are released without any specific punishment and return to their previous or similar positions; an issue that seriously questions the legitimacy of the group’s claim to “implement Sharia justice.”
Analysts believe that the arrest of Damullah Abdullah Faizi is just the tip of the iceberg of widespread corruption within the Taliban’s internal structure, and that this cycle of impunity and corruption will continue until independent judicial institutions and genuine civilian oversight are established in the country.
