Taliban search youth phones in Dasht-e-Barchi.
Continuing restrictive measures and violating citizens’ privacy, Taliban forces searched the mobile phones of a number of youths in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul on Tuesday, July 21.
Local sources confirm that these searches were conducted in the West Shop area and that the Taliban searched all sections of citizens’ phones, including personal folders, without providing a specific reason.
This is not the first time that the Taliban have carried out arbitrary searches of personal belongings.
Dozens of women and girls from different areas of Dasht-e-Barchi were previously arrested on charges of “not wearing a hijab.”
Also, the previous day, Taliban forces searched houses in the Parwan II area of Kabul in a similar action, without a warrant or legal explanation.
The Taliban’s increasingly restrictive and repressive behavior in Kabul, especially in Westernized and Shiite areas, has raised concerns about the escalation of pressure and violations of individual freedoms, and has led to reactions in the public and media.
