Female journalists silenced at Taliban Foreign Ministry press conference.
Continuing to impose restrictions on women’s presence in the media, the Taliban silenced female journalists at a press conference in Kabul.
The press conference was held by the Taliban Foreign Ministry at the group’s media center on Wednesday, July 23, and was broadcast live on national television.
According to sources, when a female journalist tried to ask a question to Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s acting foreign minister, her voice was silenced by the organizers of the meeting. It is not clear which media outlet the journalist was affiliated with.
It has also been reported that the female journalist’s voice was not broadcast on national television either. Only two female journalists were present at the press conference.
Media protection organizations are expressing concern that the Taliban are specifically targeting female journalists by imposing increasing restrictions, and the space for their activities is becoming increasingly narrow.
