A Taliban special unit commander was killed in a landmine explosion in Sar-e-Pul.
Local sources in Sar-e-Pul province have confirmed that Maulvi Sher Mohammad Nusrat, the commander of the Taliban’s special unit in the province, was killed in an IED explosion.
The incident occurred last night (Wednesday, July 23) in the Kachin area of Kohistanat district, and according to sources, it happened when Nusrat, along with several of his men, was planning to attack a hideout of armed opposition groups.
According to available information, four of the commander’s bodyguards were also injured in the explosion.
Taliban officials have not yet commented on the incident.
Earlier in the same province, Qari Zabihullah, a prominent Taliban figure, was shot dead by unknown gunmen. Some local sources claim that the attackers in such cases are Taliban members themselves, which reflects intra-group conflicts.
