Taliban do not allow female doctors to practice medicine in Herat

Blatant misogyny; Taliban do not allow female doctors to practice medicine in Herat.

Continuing their restrictive policies against women, the Taliban in Herat have closed down the offices of female dentists.

Independent journalist Sayed Hassan Hashemi wrote on Facebook on Tuesday, July 29, that these doctors graduated since 1400, but the Taliban have prevented them from continuing their work under the pretext of not passing the medical council exam.

This is while the Taliban themselves have banned girls from taking the exit exam or the medical council.

Now, these women are not only not allowed to work, but they have also lost the opportunity to enter the job market. Many medical graduates are in a state of uncertainty and unemployment because they are unable to take the legal exam to obtain a medical license.

The Taliban have not yet issued an official response to this action. But observers see this decision as part of a targeted crackdown on educated women and their gradual removal from professional and public spaces in Afghanistan.

With increasing domestic and international pressure over restrictions imposed on women, the Taliban’s latest move sends a clear message: the path to education and employment for women in Afghanistan has been deliberately blocked.
