Corruption under the Leader’s Beard; The Ministry of Education has become a center for bribery and middlemen.
New reports from the Ministry of Education show that widespread and organized corruption has eroded the ministry from within.
Sources say that in administrative and teaching deputy ministries, a network of secretaries and people close to the deputy ministers are extorting money from applicants for teaching jobs and have turned the files into a black market during the process.
According to an employee of the Ministry of Education, a person named “Qari Zain” – whose identity is unknown – is known as the main axis of corruption in the office of the deputy education minister.
He clarified that bribes of up to one hundred thousand Afghanis are demanded to hire a teacher; while these illegal transactions are never reported in the media and no supervisory body dares to pursue and investigate them.
Corruption is not limited to the recruitment process; in procurement contracts and textbook printing, a certain circle, from deputy ministers to the head of procurement, pursue their personal interests.
This situation not only holds the future of the country’s education system hostage, but also indicates the complete collapse of transparency and accountability in one of the most key ministries in Afghanistan.
