Armed robberies on the rise in Badakhshan; residents blame Taliban.
In the city of Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province, unidentified gunmen attacked a local money changer named Mohammad Yasin Javid.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening, September 10, and the attackers shot him twice in the leg, seriously wounding him. Sources say the money changer is in critical condition after being taken to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses say the attackers also took the money changer’s money with them during the attack.
A local resident said that this is not the first incident of this kind and that capitalists have been targeted in similar cases.
He added: “They shot him twice in the doorway and took his money. Similar incidents have happened before and they even attacked him with knives.”
According to local sources, Faizabad city and the districts of Badakhshan are facing a significant increase in insecurity. People are extremely worried about armed robberies, murders and extortion.
A number of residents say that many of these incidents are attributed to individuals affiliated with the Taliban and that in some cases, the group’s forces are even involved in committing thefts and violence against people.
