The US delegation arrived in Kabul with a clear message from Trump.
The Taliban Foreign Ministry confirmed the visit of a US delegation to Kabul, led by US Special Representative for Prisoners Adam Buehler, and former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, today.
This is the second visit by a US delegation to Kabul since the Taliban came to power.
The Taliban said in a statement that the main focus of the talks was the issue of imprisoned citizens of the two countries and the US side stressed that addressing these cases could lead to normalization of relations between Washington and Kabul.
Close sources say the US delegation has sent a clear message to the Taliban from US President Donald Trump.
The head of the US delegation during the meeting, in addition to the issue of prisoners, explicitly reminded that according to the Doha agreement, the Taliban are obliged to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
He stressed that progress in relations between the two countries is only possible if the Taliban stick to their commitments and take practical action to create a comprehensive political structure.
The Taliban said that along with these issues, the development of bilateral relations between the US and Afghanistan was also discussed and the two sides agreed to continue talks in this regard.
Analysts say the emphasis on the clear message of the US government and the reminder of the commitments of the Doha agreement shows that Washington is serious about future engagements with the Taliban.
