Analysts: Taliban portrays former soldiers’ deaths as “suicides.”
Local sources in Khost province say that a former soldier named “Niazuli,” a resident of Chinar village in Garbaz district, ended his life on Sunday.
He served as a police officer in the previous government and was dismissed after the Taliban came to power.
Relatives of the man say that Niazuli had been struggling with severe economic problems and lack of job opportunities in recent months. According to them, livelihood pressures and unemployment are considered to be the main factors in his decision to end his life.
However, analysts believe that such incidents cannot be solely due to economic problems. According to them, the Taliban, through hidden pressures and targeted behavior against former soldiers, put them in a position where their deaths are portrayed as “suicides.”
Similar incidents have been recorded in Khost and some other provinces in recent months, raising concerns about the Taliban retaliating against former forces.
