Unidentified gunmen kill two people in Faryab.
Local sources in Faryab province say that two people were killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in Khyber district.
The incident took place on Saturday in the Qarai neighborhood, where “Maazullah Qushbai” and his nephew “Shafiqullah” were shot and killed.
According to sources, the perpetrators of the attack were individuals associated with the Taliban who took such action out of personal enmity. However, the Taliban has not yet reacted to the incident.
Witnesses say that the two did not have any armed activities and were living normal lives.
Analysts, however, believe that such attacks are part of the Taliban’s revenge campaign against former members and soldiers, a trend that has intensified in recent months and is mostly taking the form of “unknown attacks” or under the guise of local hostilities.
In the past month alone, nearly 10 people have been targeted in such attacks in various districts of Faryab, including Almar, Kohistan, Dawlatabad, Shirin Tagab, Khwaja Sabzposh, and the city of Maimana, indicating a worrying pattern towards former forces and their families.
