Germany: Cooperation with Taliban essential for deportation of Afghans.

The German government has announced that it will continue its diplomatic contacts with the Taliban to facilitate the process of deporting Afghans with criminal records from the country.

According to the Tagesspiegel newspaper, a spokesman for the German Interior Ministry in Berlin said that talks with the Taliban are necessary for a “more orderly” return of refugees to Afghanistan.

The German official confirmed that a meeting between German and Taliban representatives was held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, in early September, and that further meetings are being planned.

He also added that the aim of the talks is to establish greater coordination in the field of deportation of Afghan refugees.

Germany has previously deported a number of Afghan refugees with criminal records to Afghanistan in coordination with the Taliban.

German media have reported that there is a possibility of a meeting between German officials and the Taliban in Kabul, but official sources have not yet confirmed this.
