The US has given the green light to anti-Taliban resistance fronts.
The US House of Representatives has recently approved a bill in the 2026 defense budget bill, according to which the US Department of Defense will be allowed to cooperate with anti-Taliban resistance fronts and groups in the fields of information and intelligence.
This decision represents a clear change in Washington’s policy towards Afghanistan and practical support for the Taliban opposition.
The bill, which was initially proposed by US Republican Representative Eli Crane, was approved by a majority vote in September.
Its goal is to provide a platform for close cooperation between US forces and anti-Taliban resistance fronts; a measure that could affect the power balance in Afghanistan.
By approving this bill, the US has effectively taken a new step towards full support for anti-Taliban resistance forces.
Analysts say this decision will not only exacerbate tense relations between Washington and the Taliban, but also provide new hope for anti-Taliban groups inside Afghanistan to gain the upper hand against the group’s rule.
