A Taliban police ranger was attacked by unidentified gunmen in the Haq-ul-Aboor area of Imam Sahib district, on the Kunduz-Shir Khan Bandar highway, sources in Kunduz province said.
The attack was followed by heavy fighting between the attackers and Taliban forces, which continued for some time.
Sources say that attacks by Taliban opposition groups have increased in the northern provinces, as the number of armed operations on important crossings and routes in Kunduz, Baghlan, Takhar and other northeastern provinces has increased significantly in recent weeks and months, challenging the Taliban in ensuring the security of routes and crossing.
