Taliban raid on religious scholar’s house in Kunar; women forced to remove hijab.
The Taliban have once again shown that they do not consider using religion as a tool to suppress people, even the sanctity of religious scholars and citizens’ homes.
Mohibullah, a religious scholar living in Sheltan district of Kunar province, said that Taliban intelligence forces insulted and harassed his family by raiding his house three days ago.
According to him, the Taliban searched the women of the family without the presence of a female police officer and forced them to remove their hijab.
These women were kept in the sun for more than three hours and were even denied permission to pray.
Such treatment clearly contradicts Islamic values, but the Taliban are committing blatant violations of women’s rights in the name of religion.
Mohibullah added that he was not present at the house during the raid and that his complaint was not only not accepted, but was also not referred to any department.
This incident shows that the Taliban do not respect religious scholars, the rights of women and children, or the sanctity of people’s homes; rather, they have made religion a means to legitimize oppression and suppression.
