The first official visit of the Taliban foreign minister to India since 2021 has been confirmed.
The Indian Foreign Ministry has announced that Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki will pay an official visit to New Delhi from October 9 to 16, 2025.
This is the first official visit by a senior Taliban official to India since the group took control of Afghanistan in August 2021.
The UN Security Council on Thursday issued a temporary exemption to Mottaki’s travel restrictions for a week.
Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said the waiver was issued publicly and information on the details of the Afghan Foreign Minister’s visit would be updated.
Jaiswal also noted that diplomatic contacts and interactions between India and the Taliban have continued in recent months.
He added that the telephone conversation between Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Amir Khan Mottaki in May was an example of these interactions and that after the recent earthquake in Afghanistan, India sent its humanitarian aid to Kunar province, part of which was transported to Afghanistan through the Chabahar port.
