Salim Pegir seriously injured in armed attack in Kabul.
Local sources reported that Salim Pegir, the head of the “Intellectual Alliance of Afghanistan” party, was attacked by two unknown individuals at his home in Kabul on Thursday morning ( 9 October 2025).
According to Pegir’s family members, the attackers introduced themselves as travelers from Canada and shot him as he was saying goodbye. One of the attackers was detained by neighbors.
Sources say Mr. Pegir is in critical condition and is on a ventilator.
Taliban officials have attributed the incident to “personal motives.”
Salim Pegir is a well-known political figure who remained in Afghanistan after the Taliban returned and occasionally appeared in the media to criticize the group’s policies.
