Local sources in Badakhshan say that Abdul Rahman Khadim, commander of the first brigade of the 219 Omar Salis Taliban, has been sent to Shahr-e-Bozorg district to control the group’s internal conflicts over control of a gold mine.

These sources confirm that with his intervention, the conflicts have ended, but the village of Awiz is still in a state of military operation.

According to local sources, in recent clashes between Taliban members in the village of Awiz, several members of the group, including Halim Hamidi, the commander of the first brigade of the Taliban, have been killed.

These clashes have intensified among local Taliban commanders over the interests and control of the region’s gold resources.

Earlier, there were reports that a number of Taliban commanders in Shahr-e-Bozorg district were extorting money from gold miners and project owners.

Sources add that the recent clash occurred between people affiliated with “Ammar”, a local Taliban commander, and the head of the group’s mine in the village of Awiz.
