Sources: Qari Abdul Rahman Ammar arrested in Badakhshan and transferred to Kabul.
Local sources in Badakhshan province have reported that after several days of tension and fighting over control of a gold mine in Shahr-e-Bozorg district, Qari Abdul Rahman Ammar, a prominent Taliban commander, was arrested today by forces affiliated with the Pashtun Taliban.
According to these sources, the arrest was carried out through trickery and deceit.
Sources say that Qari Ammar was arrested when he went to a mosque for talks and mediation, at the invitation of Maulvi Saif-ur-Rahman, a local cleric. After entering the mosque, he was arrested without any negotiations and then transferred to Kabul.
According to local sources, after Qari Ammar’s arrest, the forces under his command were disarmed and a number of them were tortured and insulted.
There are also reports that Pashtun Taliban forces have raided the homes of local residents and arrested residents on charges of supporting Qari Ammar.
House-to-house arrests continue.
