Kofi: The world should not wait for another 9/11.
In an interview with the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, Fawzia Kofi, a politician and former member of the Afghan House of Representatives, described the situation in Afghanistan as a “silent tsunami” and warned that the world should not wait for a disaster similar to 9/11.
Kofi accused the United States of “betraying” the Afghan people and said that the hasty US withdrawal had caused the Taliban to radicalize society and completely exclude women from the public sphere.
She also noted that Europe has turned its attention to the Ukraine crisis and that Afghanistan is no longer a global security priority.
The Afghan politician called for holding the Taliban accountable and supporting the opposition and Afghan women, stressing that the international community must act before larger crises occur to prevent a repeat of tragedies like 9/11.
