Sayed Anwar Sadat, the former governor of Faryab, has sharply criticized local authorities over the removal of the Uzbek language from the signboard of Jawzjan University.

In a strongly worded statement, Sadat described those who proposed and insisted on the change as “ignorant and treacherous individuals,” warning that if the signboard is not restored to its previous state soon, his return — or that of his political allies — could bring “shameful consequences.”

Earlier, Rahila Dostum, daughter of Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, also condemned the move, calling it part of the Taliban’s deliberate policy to erase the identity of Turkic communities from the country’s official structures. She expressed deep concern over the Taliban’s approach toward the language and culture of non-Pashtun ethnic groups.

The Taliban’s removal of Dari and Uzbek languages from official university and government institution signboards has sparked widespread reactions from citizens, civil activists, and political figures. Critics see the decision as an attempt to weaken the country’s linguistic and cultural diversity and have called for its immediate reversal.
