
Hamid Karzai Congratulates Yusuf Jahangir on Afghanistan’s First Muay Thai Gold Medal.
Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai has congratulated Afghanistan on securing its first Muay Thai gold medal in the Islamic Solidarity Games, expressing his congratulations in a message posted on X.
Karzai extended his felicitation to the people of Afghanistan and especially to Mohammad Yusuf Jahangir, the national Muay Thai athlete, wishing continued success for all Afghan sportsmen.
Mohammad Yusuf Jahangir, Afghanistan’s representative in the 75-kg Muay Thai category, won the gold medal at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh by defeating Muhammad Ali Merij of Turkey in the final match. Prior to reaching the final, he had overcome his opponents from Indonesia and Saudi Arabia in earlier rounds.
This medal marks Afghanistan’s first-ever gold in Muay Thai in the Islamic Solidarity Games and is considered a significant achievement for the country’s combat sports.
