Jumma Fateh: From Drummer and Thief to Taliban District Governor.
According to residents of Darwaz, Jumma Fateh, the Taliban district governor in Nusay, was a drummer before joining the Taliban and was previously involved in petty theft and robbery. Locals say he had no prior jihadist background, and his claim of pledging allegiance to Mullah Omar during the first Emirate is false.
Local sources report that in 2016 (1395 in the Afghan calendar), Jumma Fateh stole 300,000 Afghanis in teachers’ salaries from the districts of Shaki and Maymi. After being pursued by the national security forces, he fled to the mountains and later joined the Taliban. Residents say that, after assuming power, he presented himself as a religious authority and forced Darwaz Ismailis to convert to Sunni Islam under threat and pressure.
Locals also state that Jumma Fateh used his military influence to collect mandatory “gifts” from people across three districts, seizing dozens of livestock. According to them, many non-Pashtun Taliban in the northeast joined the group to escape criminal cases and corruption charges.
