Warm Welcome for Afghan Athletes Returning from the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Hundreds of citizens in Kabul warmly welcomed Mohammad Yousuf Jahangir, Mohsen Rezaei, and Jafar Soltani, Afghanistan’s medalists at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, on Sunday, November 24, 2025.
The three athletes had returned home after excelling in Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and Wushu. Mohammad Yousuf Jahangir won Afghanistan’s first-ever gold medal in Muay Thai by defeating opponents from Turkey, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. Mohsen Rezaei earned a silver medal in Taekwondo after defeating competitors from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Saudi Arabia. Jafar Soltani secured a bronze medal in Wushu, marking Afghanistan’s third medal in the event.
These achievements have been described as a “historic accomplishment” for Afghan sports. With one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal at the event hosted by Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan recorded one of its most successful performances in international competitions.
