
Amanullah Khalilyar, one of Afghanistan’s prominent media figures, has passed away at the age of 86.
Khalilyar, a renowned and influential personality in Afghanistan’s cultural and media circles and a pioneer of the country’s press, died in Kabul at the age of 86. He had undergone heart surgery in a Kabul hospital, but due to the inadequacy of the country’s healthcare system, he fell into a coma after a subsequent procedure and never regained consciousness.
Amanullah Khalilyar belonged to a generation of dedicated and enlightened intellectuals who devoted their productive lives to serving the culture, language, and media of Afghanistan.
Known for his humble demeanor and exemplary ethics, he held a special place among cultural figures, media professionals, and the Uzbek-speaking community of Afghanistan, and was recognized as a hardworking, disciplined, and compassionate personality.
Throughout his career, Khalilyar held several key positions, including Director of “Sedaye Hamwatan” at the National Radio and Television, provincial director, head of various broadcasting departments, and Director of Television Ayna. His leadership significantly contributed to the development and consolidation of Uzbek-language media in Afghanistan.
Cultural, social, and media activists across the country have described his passing as a major loss for Afghanistan’s cultural community, particularly for the Uzbek-speaking population.
