Torture and Death Threats Against an Uzbek Family by the Taliban in Kunduz.
Maryam, an elderly woman, and her son Khal Mohammad told the media that forces from the Second Criminal Department of the Taliban in Imam Sahib district, Kunduz, severely beat them. According to the family, Taliban members entered their home in the village of Basus at midnight without a legal warrant and exhibited violent behavior.
Khal Mohammad said that the deputy of the Taliban criminal department threatened him with death and, together with ten members of the group, physically assaulted him and his mother inside their house. Released videos and medical records provided to the media show extensive bruising on Khal Mohammad’s body and injuries sustained by Maryam.
The young man claims that the attack was ethnically motivated, targeting him because he is Uzbek. Despite these allegations and accompanying evidence, local Taliban officials in Kunduz have not yet responded, and the reasons behind the nighttime raid and violent actions of the Taliban police remain unclear.
