Multiple sources report that months of Iranian efforts to bring together political opponents of the Taliban have resulted in the formation of a major political coalition.

The draft coalition, obtained by the media on December 5, brings together influential Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, and Uzbek figures, including Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Atta Mohammad Noor, Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, Mohammad Mohaqiq, and Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front.

This coalition represents an unprecedented alliance of technocrats and former jihadist commanders under a single bloc aimed at promoting peace and dialogue with the Taliban.

According to sources, Hanif Atmar leads the Pashtun segment, while Atta Mohammad Noor, Dostum, and Mohaqiq represent the Tajik, Uzbek, and Hazara communities. Ahmad Massoud’s inclusion as a military leader is considered essential for strengthening the coalition’s political weight.

The coalition’s initial goal is to establish a unified framework for dialogue with the Taliban. Sources note that the leaders have held multiple meetings over recent months, some of which took place in Iran and Turkey.

Iranian officials have also met with some members of the coalition in Turkey, and several leaders have traveled to Iran. The alliance is expected to be officially announced soon.
