After Heavy Taliban Losses, Security Oversight Over Youth Intensifies in Panjshir
Sources say that following recent security incidents and heavy Taliban casualties in Panjshir province, Taliban authorities in Kandahar have ordered the compilation of a list of young people in Panjshir to be sent for review to the group’s central authorities.
The Taliban governor in Panjshir confirmed that in a meeting with senior Taliban officials, there was an emphasis on recruiting youth into the administrative structure of the group.
The order comes as Panjshir remains one of the active areas of anti-Taliban forces, with sporadic attacks on Taliban positions being reported from time to time.
In the latest incident, the National Resistance Front claimed responsibility for an attack, asserting that it inflicted significant casualties on Taliban forces, heightening security concerns in the province.
Analysts and local sources state that the primary purpose of collecting information about youth is security-related, and unemployment is merely a pretext for this program.
According to them, the Taliban aim to monitor the movements and potential alignment of young people with opposition groups, thereby tightening their control over Panjshir’s security situation.
