Afghan Embassy in Tajikistan Calls for International Action Following Dutch Court Ruling.
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Tajikistan issued a statement calling for follow-up on the Dutch People’s Court decision regarding the situation of women in Afghanistan.
After two months of review by reputable human rights organizations, the court determined that the Taliban’s treatment of women constitutes a clear case of crimes against humanity, holding several Taliban officials responsible for suppressing and violating women’s rights.
The embassy, while appreciating the court’s decision, emphasized that using religion to justify violence, discrimination, and deprivation is incompatible with Islamic, human, and legal standards.
The statement added that unless the Taliban change their beliefs and behavior toward genuine Islam, respect for human dignity, and observance of women’s rights, any engagement or alignment with the group would constitute a blatant betrayal of Afghan women and the Afghan people.
The Afghan Embassy called on the international community to stand with the Afghan people and prevent the country from falling victim again to extremism, violence, and great power rivalries.
It stressed that international support is vital to protect women’s rights and prevent human rights violations in Afghanistan.
