Local sources report that residents of Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province, are complaining about the growing corruption, bribery, and mistreatment of citizens in government offices.

According to these sources, administrative procedures are delayed and obstructed unless bribes are paid. One resident from the First District of Taloqan told sources that the process of registering his house at the municipality had been stalled for nearly a month.

He said municipal employees repeatedly cited reasons such as absent managers or lack of authorization to prevent progress, and he ultimately had to pay 5,000 Afghanis to complete his paperwork. For security reasons, his identity has not been disclosed.

Sources added that in some cases, bribes are paid outside official buildings in designated locations. Corruption and financial misconduct reportedly affect municipal offices, courts, education, the justice department, mining, and criminal investigation units.

Earlier, Transparency International also reported a lack of financial transparency and widespread corruption within the Taliban administration.
