Denmark: Women’s participation essential for Afghanistan’s political future.

Mette Knudsen, Denmark’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, warned during a meeting with Afghan women activists that excluding women from political processes could have serious and irreversible consequences for Afghanistan’s future.

Knudsen emphasized that meaningful and effective participation of women is a fundamental requirement for building a sustainable political future in the country.

She added that Denmark supports structural participation and direct involvement of women in international processes related to Afghanistan, and the global community must not allow Afghan women to be excluded from major political decision-making.

Meanwhile, Atofa Tayeb, a former member of the Afghan House of Representatives attending the meeting, said that women highlighted their key role in education, protection, and support of vulnerable communities.

Afghan women activists called on the international community to ensure conditions that enable women’s participation in political decisions and contribute to lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.
