Allegations of Extortion from Shopkeepers in Takhar.
Local sources in Khwaja Bahauddin district of Takhar province report widespread public complaints regarding administrative corruption within the municipality.
According to these sources, Abdul Khalil Jawan, the municipality’s administrative manager, has been accused by shopkeepers and stallholders of extortion and illegally collecting money.
Business owners claim that amounts ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 Afghanis are taken from each stallholder under the pretext of relocation and official registration of roadside stalls.
They say this practice is carried out in coordination with some municipal employees and has caused financial losses to many businesses.
Meanwhile, similar reports from Rustaq, Khwaja Ghar, and Taloqan city indicate bribery in several government offices. Residents say the lack of oversight and accountability has contributed to the spread of administrative corruption and growing public dissatisfaction.
