Taliban Remove Afghanistan’s Consul in Khorugh, Tajikistan.
Informed sources in Tajikistan report that the Taliban have dismissed Afghanistan’s consul in Khorugh, who had been cooperating with the group.
According to these sources, Naqibullah Dehqanizada, a diplomat from the former Afghan government who continued to engage with the Taliban after the change of power, has officially been removed from his post.
Based on available information, the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs ended Dehqanizada’s assignment on 15 December 2025 and simultaneously suspended the activities of the Afghan consulate in Khorugh.
Sources also claim that Dehqanizada transferred approximately USD 120,000 to the Taliban’s foreign ministry, though details of this matter have not been officially disclosed.
Sources say the decision was made while Dehqanizada was seeking Taliban support to be appointed as Afghanistan’s ambassador to Tajikistan in place of Zahir Aghbar.
This comes as Tajikistan continues to refuse recognition of the Taliban and has not accepted representatives of the group at the Afghan embassy in Dushanbe or the consulate in Khorugh.
