Three Days After Tehran Assassination: Ikrām-ud-Dīn Sarī’s Case Remains Unresolved.
Three days after the assassination of Ikrām-ud-Dīn Sarī, the former police commander of Takhar province in the previous Afghan government, an Iranian official stated that investigations into the case are ongoing and no final conclusion has yet been announced.
Hossein Khosh-Aqbal, Governor of Tehran, told Entekhab News that the case of the murder of an Afghan citizen in the Iranian capital is still under investigation, but no final decision has been reached.
He added that the outcome of the investigation “will be announced tomorrow.” Meanwhile, the body of Ikrām-ud-Dīn Sarī, who was targeted in Tehran three days ago, was buried in the city today. The incident has drawn significant attention in Iranian media and political circles.
Some Iranian outlets attribute the assassination of the former Afghan military officer to a flawed strategy by the Islamic Republic of Iran toward the Taliban.
The newspaper Jomhuri-ye Islami warned in an article that Iranian security and intelligence agencies are facing a complex conspiracy. Simultaneously, relatives of Ikrām-ud-Dīn Sarī and several politicians from the previous Afghan government claim that the assassination was carried out by Taliban operatives in Tehran a claim that has yet to be officially confirmed by Iranian security authorities or responded to by the Taliban spokesperson.
