Intelligence Control of the Economy in Herat: Money Changers Under Taliban Pressure.

Local money changers in Herat report that the Taliban’s intelligence directorate has relocated its office to Khorasan Market, the city’s main hub for currency exchange and financial transfers.

According to experts, this move was deliberate and calculated, amounting to direct control over the city’s financial and economic flows.

Reports indicate that the location is being used to pressure money changers, restrict money transfers, and collect significant sums daily under illegal and coercive pretexts.

This trend has put the capital of citizens and traders at risk and has turned Herat’s economic environment into one marked by fear, pressure, and instability.

Local sources also warn that networks affiliated with Taliban intelligence are employing various methods, including threats, intimidation, extortion, coercion, and in some cases abduction.

According to the sources, the current situation in Herat goes beyond an ordinary security issue and signals the institutionalization of lawlessness and the systematic seizure of people’s assets developments that, if continued, will have serious social, economic, and humanitarian consequences.
