Local Sources: “Marry Women from Badakhshan and Rule Over Them” Has Become a Practice of Pashtun Taliban.
Local sources in Badakhshan Province say that Pashtun Taliban members are exploiting poverty and the economic and social restrictions faced by the population to take girls who have been deprived of education as their second, third, and fourth wives.
According to the sources, these marriages are largely carried out under family pressure and through various coercive tactics, while the victims have no legal or social protection.
The sources stress that these practices have caused widespread concern among families and the local community.
At the same time, Pashtun Taliban in Badakhshan are reportedly seizing public and private land, natural forests, and extracting minerals.
Local sources say that a large number of government institutions are under their direct control, while the actual management of many offices has been delegated to deputies.
This situation has resulted in serious limitations for local residents in accessing land, housing, and basic services.
The sources add that Tajik Taliban members in the province have so far shown no reaction or action regarding forced marriages, land seizures, or mineral extraction.
Local sources warn that the absence of transparency, rule of law, and independent oversight institutions has created conditions for the continuation of widespread abuses and changes in the social and economic fabric of Badakhshan.
According to these sources, the continuation of this trend not only violates basic human rights but may also provoke reactions from local residents in the future, increasing the likelihood of widespread discontent and protests.
If these abuses are not halted, the sources warn, their social and security consequences for Badakhshan and neighboring regions will be serious.
