Turkey Increases Security for Anti-Taliban Leaders Following General Sarir’s Assassination and Dostum’s Warning.

Following the assassination of General Akramuddin Sarir and the controversial remarks by Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, in which he warned that the Taliban would be “brought to their knees and compelled” if they refused dialogue, the Turkish government has significantly enhanced security measures for Marshal Dostum and Mohammad Mohaqiq.

Sources familiar with the matter said the move was taken in response to growing concerns over security threats against Taliban opponents abroad and the possibility of targeted assassinations.

These concerns have intensified amid reports of a secret unit within the Taliban’s intelligence structure.

According to these sources, this unit is tasked with identifying, tracking, and assassinating Taliban opponents, including political figures, former military personnel, and critics, both inside and outside Afghanistan.

The unit reportedly operates covertly and maintains direct links with Taliban authorities in Kandahar.

At the same time, several targeted killings in neighboring countries, including in Mashhad and Tehran, have been cited as potential examples of the unit’s activities.

Dostum and Mohaqiq, who relocated to Turkey after the Taliban regained power on August 15, 2021, are among the most vocal critics of the Taliban.

The increased security measures come as human rights organizations and Afghan political activists warn that the expansion of cross-border Taliban operations poses a serious threat to regional stability and security.
