Local sources in Takhar province report that last night, five armed men attempting to cross illegally from Afghanistan into Tajikistan were fired upon by Tajik border guards in the Baharak area of Chah-Ab district.

According to these sources, three individuals were killed while two others managed to escape.

The deceased have been identified as Javed, son of Dawlatmand; Rashid, son of Dawlatmand (residents of Wari Che village); and Saber, son of Zahir (resident of Anjir village, Chah-Ab district), all confirmed by local sources to be Taliban members.

The clash reportedly lasted several hours. Following the engagement, Tajik border guards seized significant military equipment and narcotics, including three Kalashnikov rifles with four magazines, 150 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, four backpacks containing 73 packages of hashish and opium, and one boat.

This incident marks at least the fifth armed infiltration or border clash along the Afghanistan–Tajikistan frontier in the past three months. Previously, the Tajik government had reported multiple armed men killed while attempting illegal border crossings with weapons and drugs. Earlier reports also cited the deaths of several Chinese citizens in border areas between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

Tajik authorities have repeatedly described these incidents as “terrorist acts” and called on the Taliban for clarification; however, no official response has been issued regarding last night’s event.

A Russian expert commented that the Taliban have failed to provide security in Afghanistan and that their claims of full border control do not align with field realities.
