Fourth Bloody Assassination: Anti-Taliban Figures Targeted Inside Iran.
This marks the fourth violent assassination of former military commanders and anti-Taliban figures on Iranian soil.
Informed sources report the killing of Rahmatullah Mujahid, the former commander of Unit 737 of Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Badghis Province, in Tehran—an incident that has once again brought the safety of anti-Taliban figures in Iran into sharp focus.
According to sources, Mujahid was attacked by unidentified armed individuals at his workplace in Tehran two nights ago, and his body was later discovered bearing clear signs of severe violence.
Despite the sensitivity of the case, Iranian authorities have so far issued no official statement or explanation.
Mujahid’s family has confirmed that he had received repeated threats from the Taliban in recent months, threats that reportedly intensified after a rocket attack in Qadis District of Badghis Province.
Relatives say that his security background, operational role during the former republic, and open opposition to the Taliban had made him a prime target for cross-border targeted assassinations.
The killing of Rahmatullah Mujahid is recorded as the fourth assassination of former Afghan security and military figures in Iran.
Previously, General Ekramuddin Sari, former police chief of Takhar and Baghlan provinces; Mohammad Amin Almas, a former Afghan military member in Tehran; and Marouf Gholami, a military commander close to Ismail Khan in Mashhad, were all mysteriously assassinated.
The continuation of these targeted killings, combined with the silence of Iranian authorities, has sparked widespread concern and anger among Afghan political and security activists, further strengthening suspicions about the direct or indirect involvement of the Taliban.
This comes as credible sources have earlier reported the existence of a special unit within Taliban intelligence tasked specifically with assassinating former Afghan military and political figures.
